Water Quality
For those who are supplied water from/through municipal or community water
suppliers, the quality of water is strictly monitored,
highly regulated, and the supplied water is treated with disinfectants
such as chlorine. This protects the users from water borne organisms
and substances that are known to or suspected of causing health
problems. These suppliers ensure that bacteriological tests are
carried out every week and tests for other contaminants are carried
out on a monthly or yearly basis.
Another major concern in community water supplies that use chlorine
and chlorine compounds for disinfections
is by-products of these disinfections. To address these issues,
the municipal or community water suppliers are required to provide
you with a copy of the latest water test results once every year.
However, if you obtain water from a private water supply such as
a well, then the final decision with respect to frequency and type
of testing rests with you alone. Please make sure that the types
and amounts of impurities in your water are determined only through
analysis by a certified laboratory - this would provide you with
a high assurance level. Akin to the testing schedule and frequency
established by municipal or community water suppliers, the recommended
testing interval for private water supplies is
also once a year. However, in case problems occur or the source
becomes questionable, you must carry out more frequent testing to
establish purity and suitability of water.
